<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Remember the saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure"? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yesterday, on the way home from visiting family, we stopped at Hokie Gee's flea market in Everett, PA. I needed some "dental" tools to use for sewing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2Vg8mmhpQ2KHHwCNObm3-8aYAob8KikYY53tqzjvnNdEWDLqd1kIhrrRW6e6DZTfuEbO48pGdPYXu1RKoH-IvkX5QO_lkYOauL0bK3RQkCs2AeAA3Tv31Yut4pmUNifRvpiFth9hhMZ6/s1600/flea+market+find+tools+SAM_0372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS2Vg8mmhpQ2KHHwCNObm3-8aYAob8KikYY53tqzjvnNdEWDLqd1kIhrrRW6e6DZTfuEbO48pGdPYXu1RKoH-IvkX5QO_lkYOauL0bK3RQkCs2AeAA3Tv31Yut4pmUNifRvpiFth9hhMZ6/s1600/flea+market+find+tools+SAM_0372.JPG" height="320" width="152" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These sharp little instruments are great for reaching threads in places where fingers just won't fit. They set me back $1.49 each. The tweezers are especially wicked.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wish they still had the straight "picks". I use one of those that I bought about five years ago...best stiletto ever. That one cost a $1.00.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We decided to roam around for a few minutes. We looked at furniture, etc. I found a wool crazy quilt top in one of the stalls. It is a good size quilt top. I have not measured it yet. Looks like a small queen size...great for on the sofa while I am watching TV on a cold winter evening or better yet a snow day from school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Merry Christmas to me! It only cost $30. I always feel sad to see things like this at flea markets. Someone's Grandma or Auntie put a lot of work into this and no family member wanted it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihPg8_Aqr1F9BgDhbiI3f4z9TMCHEH0MBUhRwK14kI3jk8qoyTQW1iRywe9mPyN04wJtsdmEyhyphenhyphendDueUSAHDASRoAagkN1DaUOgTEy-l1FqV6tC1TE943g93Rpm4Qx_DftFS2uu6Bn8wVT/s1600/flea+market+find+tag+SAM_0371.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihPg8_Aqr1F9BgDhbiI3f4z9TMCHEH0MBUhRwK14kI3jk8qoyTQW1iRywe9mPyN04wJtsdmEyhyphenhyphendDueUSAHDASRoAagkN1DaUOgTEy-l1FqV6tC1TE943g93Rpm4Qx_DftFS2uu6Bn8wVT/s1600/flea+market+find+tag+SAM_0371.JPG" height="90" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There were no markings to indicate the maker or origin. It is on a cotton foundation. Most of the patches are wool, so I know it will wear very well. It has herring bone embroidery around all of the patches. The stitches are nice and even. The maker used a variety of colors for the embroidery.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSv1M8ruSYlZm5EMaCbkBTHx1BBqxob_DYnpBg-UyP8MHOHl7DjS7F1CtLI0q4K26oBgVn_aGnklKOdxJhU8cVA7bUpNbBgezCb9QrIzRt8TqpNb0gB4WN2LvWfxfSMGnCZHUrweEfzHn4/s1600/flea+market+find+SAM_0368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSv1M8ruSYlZm5EMaCbkBTHx1BBqxob_DYnpBg-UyP8MHOHl7DjS7F1CtLI0q4K26oBgVn_aGnklKOdxJhU8cVA7bUpNbBgezCb9QrIzRt8TqpNb0gB4WN2LvWfxfSMGnCZHUrweEfzHn4/s1600/flea+market+find+SAM_0368.JPG" height="320" width="255" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I plan on using the big spaces to do practice machine embroidery before I finish it to be used. The picture looks so much brighter color wise than the actual quilt. The patches that are gray or tan in the photo are small plaid, like that found in wool women's suits and skirts. Even that bright blue border is some kind of wool blend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What treasure did you find in your life today? Sometimes we all need to find joy in the littlest things in our lives....even if it is only a dental implement.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Time to go play with fabric and thread!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have a great Sunday...find the time to find your inner peace away from the stress of the holidays.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Later,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I think I have about lost my mind. There are Christmas stockings stacked everywhere...here a pile...there a pile....everywhere a pile. The piles seem to be growing and growing and growing.<br />

<br />
<br />
Usually during the week of Thanksgiving, I machine embroider the names of all of the students on my team at school on to Dollar Tree stockings that I buy for 50 cents each the year before while they are on clearance sale. For the past several years that has been about 75 students. This year we increased that number by one more class. Make that 102 stockings. Still no big deal if we A) hadn't traveled over most of Thanksgiving vacation (It was worth every mile.), B) my original embroidery machine that I bought back in 2003 died. (DH wanted to know if I wanted to bury it in the back yard...hahaha. I told him it would be a great door stop.), AND C) the new one was delayed in shipping for 3 days because of bad weather across the Mid-west.<br />
<br />
The new machine has finally arrived. I have the embroidery done on 92 stockings. 10 to go. Then the sewing begins.<br />
<br />
There are three methods for getting an embroidered name on a stocking. I feel the need to share this because these stockings look better than $1 (unless you look too closely...5th graders don't know any better so looks count for everything...that and jingle bells and gold thread!) I could not buy the fabric and trim that goes into making these stockings from scratch for $1.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Method #1</u></b> (I only had 8 stockings that I could use this method with this year.) If the stocking has a nice, loose flippy flap, flip it and embroider. These needed soluble stabilizer because they had a fuzzy pile. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDI3DOWukTAJnAE9qFBdmbjlWVApK05uRDsleDcsR0aabAcRcdddbMKfSikxKQuDSJkaN1BCNzXksn5_Y-IanYqhmREKI27A3jhVQ4_ZeihwUzMc5R0yrh230TjzLt5JxtY5_noUoECegC/s1600/SAM_0357.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDI3DOWukTAJnAE9qFBdmbjlWVApK05uRDsleDcsR0aabAcRcdddbMKfSikxKQuDSJkaN1BCNzXksn5_Y-IanYqhmREKI27A3jhVQ4_ZeihwUzMc5R0yrh230TjzLt5JxtY5_noUoECegC/s1600/SAM_0357.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRf_ljIszX6MYOWTkMjGZ_ZhDqSgd74pZJo-5A0g2V6ePmYSQiW7r1nfwFqNy9WmTHRwaulX0z8VKqocbACYYqe2gZBjCtsKYPbsqX09xxfBt3QsoxvH_auh7jLw2j06DAxiAqlv4YagJc/s1600/SAM_0356.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRf_ljIszX6MYOWTkMjGZ_ZhDqSgd74pZJo-5A0g2V6ePmYSQiW7r1nfwFqNy9WmTHRwaulX0z8VKqocbACYYqe2gZBjCtsKYPbsqX09xxfBt3QsoxvH_auh7jLw2j06DAxiAqlv4YagJc/s1600/SAM_0356.JPG" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<b><u>Method #2 </u></b> Remove some stitches to make a flap. Unfortunately most of the stockings fell into this category. I am grateful for the loose stitching on Dollar Tree stockings for this very reason. After all of the stockings are embroidered I will have a sewing party to reassemble them by stitching up the side seam. I turned them inside out as I pulled them off of the embroidery machine. Eventually the pile was higher than my head! (Not a great big thing because I am short.)<br />

<br /></div>
<b><u>Method #3</u></b> If a stocking is way too fuzzy to embroider on OR it will not remain intact when a side seam is removed, names can be embroidered on felt and added later. There were a good many of these, too. (40 to be exact.) I discovered and used this method last year. It was a time saver and a sanity saver.<br />

Over the week of Thanksgiving, we drove to Denver, Colorado to visit with our son. Yes...from West Virginia to Denver. We drove. It took 3 days to get there. We visited. It took 3 days to drive home. It is all about the journey. </div>

Okay...this is the Tom Tom version of Kansas. I couldn't get a good picture of the herds of tumbleweeds crossing the road. How unlucky are the animals that get hit on I-70 when you can see for 10 or more miles? Just saying.</div>

I read lots and lots of other people's blogs. They are about a variety of topics. The ones that I like best are the ones that talk about a variety of topics...quilting, cooking, sewing, their lives in general. These blogs are posted often...at least once a week. I feel like I know these authors. They are friends. I want my blog to make readers feel that way, too. <br />
<br />
I am going to continue to talk about quilting. Sewing is not always quilting, so I will be talking about that, too. I wish that I cooked often enough to talk about that. I like food. I think I will promote and talk about my favorite places to eat. I think I will talk more about traveling. <br />
<br />
Now for some pictures! Everyone loves pictures on a blog!<br />
<br />
This picture was taken in my front yard the weekend before Thanksgiving. The sun was setting as we were finishing up some yard work and I couldn't resist running for the camera. The colors are gorgeous.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Here are some pictures that I took as we drove around the Denver, Colorado area right before Thanksgiving. Never fail! Every time I tried to snap a picture of the beautiful mountains in the distance, there was a sign or a truck....argh!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlTH8dJhk0cuFtotC5n95FRQwmYrQrOg9yx95IEX1ZMjI2GfpEZgcBciRnP1BWycEqPcuwharG4NvJ_OQE5aYQ14F2xJAna3qHJr1M7KcPju8vr-xjpTmcXos5LtIzTEGPratouhEAFfQI/s1600/SAM_0322.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlTH8dJhk0cuFtotC5n95FRQwmYrQrOg9yx95IEX1ZMjI2GfpEZgcBciRnP1BWycEqPcuwharG4NvJ_OQE5aYQ14F2xJAna3qHJr1M7KcPju8vr-xjpTmcXos5LtIzTEGPratouhEAFfQI/s1600/SAM_0322.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then there was a mountain....tada! The mountains are soooo much bigger here in the West. (I still love the tree covered mountains of the East, too.)</div>
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Parting picture for today. This is the sunrise as we were leaving Colorado. The mountains were well behind us. The dawn of a new day. The colors were a little past the peak in this picture, but it was a feast for the eyes. Homeward bound...</div>

I always have way too many projects in progress...between the first and last step. I recently bought a box of fabric at a yard sale for $10. The lady running the yard sale said she was not a quilter...She had been making square dance costumes. Out of quilting cotton fabric? Who knew! <br />
<br />
When I was taking a break from ironing the monstrous pile of scraps (I am still not finished!), I came across a very nice sister's choice quilt picture. My sisters (5 of them) have been politely requesting quilts for a couple of years. I decided that I would use a bunch of the scraps to do just that! Here is my beginning....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvRocCn7143bjVoHsKK-6h9EZadKPh-f5fc7mzFdUsXZOOjhxM8VKCLcwziOC6UPJaD2AUSfS-B6oTzTd00_933L1t0Ap9i1UY874nc7B92tTSiaXaln1P18Nfk_IXTLdyIQ1mk517w5A/s1600/SAM_0200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsvRocCn7143bjVoHsKK-6h9EZadKPh-f5fc7mzFdUsXZOOjhxM8VKCLcwziOC6UPJaD2AUSfS-B6oTzTd00_933L1t0Ap9i1UY874nc7B92tTSiaXaln1P18Nfk_IXTLdyIQ1mk517w5A/s1600/SAM_0200.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a>'</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The background fabric is an off white with peach and light green designs all over it...very 80's. My sisters will love it because I said so. (From a distance it is just another background). There was about 3 yards of this in the box.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCExRrrubV8xZPEnUyAxhyphenhyphenbMNUFxBA2pPTCcSDDt7zX2otPmbtCpuyTpRi0bc8rCgJej_l72_T0l8L19L5VUJcGhPzKhaJT0e1UowSCJT-HFK34BDmfTIKxBdOkLMQOheLrwccCdC2pPot/s1600/SAM_0201_Edited.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCExRrrubV8xZPEnUyAxhyphenhyphenbMNUFxBA2pPTCcSDDt7zX2otPmbtCpuyTpRi0bc8rCgJej_l72_T0l8L19L5VUJcGhPzKhaJT0e1UowSCJT-HFK34BDmfTIKxBdOkLMQOheLrwccCdC2pPot/s1600/SAM_0201_Edited.JPG" height="204" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are just a few example blocks. I really like the teal one and surprisingly the Christmas fabric one. All my beginning blocks have the maroon star points, same background, and black with roses squares. The other 4 blocks are from the bin of 2 1/2" pre-cut scraps. I used anything that was light or bright that had 4 blocks available.</div>

DUH!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I did not realize that I had not written a blog post since July. That is quite a nice little hiatus. I have been busy. My father-in-law gave me a new camera. I have decided that it doesn't matter what camera I am using, we have a love-hate relationship when I add the computer into the equation...like a big ol' frustrating love triangle. Enough about my problems. <div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi91bNKE4C6WtG-5G8d2yNjJ75nxujxwDjgOplEN9kCbhFQpidVBi0O-bhWofxzrkPVqPq3SI8RYN3KNeGmzCYu6ZKQT4MO97QwhWDtDfIaboB-2FmlhXWSR08QdIW6b4SK9cKwGLz4u3Lu/s1600/autumn+October+2014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi91bNKE4C6WtG-5G8d2yNjJ75nxujxwDjgOplEN9kCbhFQpidVBi0O-bhWofxzrkPVqPq3SI8RYN3KNeGmzCYu6ZKQT4MO97QwhWDtDfIaboB-2FmlhXWSR08QdIW6b4SK9cKwGLz4u3Lu/s1600/autumn+October+2014.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope you have all been well...and busy. Autumn is officially here. This is a picture of the woods from my back deck. You can see the salt lick for the deer off to the right. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLnB8snFfPvvgsORDmDPCuXnBGAet2-plaPYd7RvwejuQvo-M7CwozTSYF6KWKccQEma7Rt8W1-W-hza7WGxTxlmf99rLG2tFyYCZFwvOyuAwTr9IiMzb7HBu-xACcHJPJ8Kiq96U-RcIF/s1600/truck+quilt+2014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLnB8snFfPvvgsORDmDPCuXnBGAet2-plaPYd7RvwejuQvo-M7CwozTSYF6KWKccQEma7Rt8W1-W-hza7WGxTxlmf99rLG2tFyYCZFwvOyuAwTr9IiMzb7HBu-xACcHJPJ8Kiq96U-RcIF/s1600/truck+quilt+2014.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
DH waited 16 years to buy the truck of his dreams. It only took me a YEAR to finish the quilt. I had the blocks already finished and waiting. It takes me a long time to quilt things, even on the quilting machine. I tense my shoulders. I hang on too tight. That makes it seem like work. I need to relax, but have trouble doing that with the "big machine".</div>

I have been working on this quilt for a while now...okay, a year and a half. It will be 104" square when it is completed. I have been trimming half square triangles for most of the year and a half. (I sewed them all in 2 Sunday afternoons. You can tell which part of the process I like best.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am going through a phase with two block quilts. I designed this one on EQ7. My original design was in all purples and reds. Then I started searching in my stash. I had enough teals, but not enough purple or red. Oh, well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The center of each block is from a 4 1/2" anything goes swap I ran a while back on <a href="https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WeRQuilters/conversations/topics">my yahoo site</a>. Some of these blocks are crumb blocks. I can't help myself. I am forever making crumb blocks. They are like free quilt blocks because they are made from scraps that could be garbage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The small blocks in the four patches are from my stash of 2 1/2" squares. Every once in a while I have a day that I just cut things into little pieces. What great stress relief! (It also makes me safer to be around other humans....maybe.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't have a chance to do this often, but I am going to link to <a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/">Judy's design wall</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have some great pictures to share from my "Great Lakes Tour". That is for another entry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great day!</div>

We recently returned from another trip to theWilliamsburg/ Jamestown, Virginia area. This area is one of our family favorites. We found a new activity. Actually, it is an old activity that went away, but now it is back. We went on a James River boat tour...the sunset cruise to be more specific. We had a great time. Here is a <a href="http://www.jamestowndiscovery.com/">link</a>.<br />
<br />
Here are some pictures. <br />
<br />
This is a picture of an osprey on its nest if you look carefully at the big bunch of sticks at the top of the tree.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3FLZ8g9W5vjEdnlC59Fhd9-yb8iZA4kBpbT4ihHmI6p5hkfeTdRxU1rNpVOyYTmCxjFVx_0KrMpsZELn-zn4p7YximSAPbGcUoGLmcCK4c2XzFL6-X_iN5mydXEddqOlh61TEBAWQtJDp/s1600/100_5041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3FLZ8g9W5vjEdnlC59Fhd9-yb8iZA4kBpbT4ihHmI6p5hkfeTdRxU1rNpVOyYTmCxjFVx_0KrMpsZELn-zn4p7YximSAPbGcUoGLmcCK4c2XzFL6-X_iN5mydXEddqOlh61TEBAWQtJDp/s1600/100_5041.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a> A great blue heron stands on a retaining wall. I have conflicted feelings about a bird that is as tall as I am. Hmph.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzXxvx63anHg9iuTVl6tAHPM1HW_aWgPZIjB4dqHTzaMP1AfrdqhPnUe_bErGP0WxRlZLeCFjpKRP3Swk8AM7XCIWg90ojij9zJp6WaBe7iy_KjXttnbixCxdhaJ8MH26Fn55CVRzLDPGZ/s1600/100_5045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzXxvx63anHg9iuTVl6tAHPM1HW_aWgPZIjB4dqHTzaMP1AfrdqhPnUe_bErGP0WxRlZLeCFjpKRP3Swk8AM7XCIWg90ojij9zJp6WaBe7iy_KjXttnbixCxdhaJ8MH26Fn55CVRzLDPGZ/s1600/100_5045.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
These is the waterside view of the replica boats that first came to Jamestown. I am amazed that they made it to America. I can't imagine how stinky everyone was after that trip. Probably no one noticed because no one bathed. Ewww!<br />

Over the weekend, I bought a lunch bag at a yard sale for 50 cents. My rule is that all items must be cleaned before they are put away. Cloth items go in the washer. Anything that can survive the dishwasher goes in there. <br />
<br />
If I have to I will wash things by hand....only if I have to. Usually this is because of poor sticker placement. Ooops or Goof-off are both wonderful products for removing sticker or tape residue. I will caution you to use these in a well ventilated area or you might forget your task. Sometimes these products melt plastics or remove certain types of paint. Sad, but true. A cleaning project can become a paint project. Guess that is part of the name...Ooops!<br />
<br />
This lunch bag went into the washer, but sadly did not survive the dryer. The tag did not mention this. I forgot to tell my husband not to put it in the dryer. Oh, well. I can't be upset. It was 50 cents, not retail. (I bought it to carry around a bunch of the other smaller treasures that I wanted.)<br />
<br />

I am not a big brown fan, but I do like this teal with it. I also like it with a nice, bold pink. </div>

I decided that this bag was not going to be a total loss. I harvested a nice nylon adjustable strap, two pieces of brown sew on Velcro, and a nylon zipper. <br />
<br />
I am getting so much better with my seam ripper these days because I am sewing more. (Let me say that not all seam rippers are created equally. The more expensive ones are better....much better than the cheap ones. Cheap ones are great for starters, but when you can afford one that is a little more, treat yourself. The one I used for this cost $5 or $6 and could be used for surgery because it is sharp and strong.)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A couple of weekends ago, while we were visiting my in-laws in State College, PA, my husband bought this little framed card at a yard sale for 50 cents. It will be part of the collection in the "man cave" living room. (I have a sewing room. He gets a man cave.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjl7HwLkqHCs1XLrXFAvs05a85dXYoR-TUSbOKZifCyTeirOJr-Zy_MCwWHpJxaRxoQ6GgZILIXv0xHtZ6HScBQYVMtmnNvhzyDM_vxGJW6TDQmtpKQb0iFFgvU-r4w3onra55i_Jb7bLi/s1600/100_4931.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjl7HwLkqHCs1XLrXFAvs05a85dXYoR-TUSbOKZifCyTeirOJr-Zy_MCwWHpJxaRxoQ6GgZILIXv0xHtZ6HScBQYVMtmnNvhzyDM_vxGJW6TDQmtpKQb0iFFgvU-r4w3onra55i_Jb7bLi/s1600/100_4931.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While it was laying on the kitchen counter, the parts in the frame "sunk" because they were not secured in any way. When I started to shove the glass, etc. back into the frame, I noticed it was "puffy". A framed card shouldn't be puffy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took the layers apart. Look what I found:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqQSwN17-crAFamKDiDpA6-ZQ32aIEEq0W6QUZlzo6BXXLVgID-Oeg4uAzEjhohxqXs24I__UgWtbkszPfD1Lye70jkPWCDUeTc-UgL0NYsHfbDc9X9As2TWjKsjCY4txf2r890d2Wf3Wj/s1600/100_4932.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqQSwN17-crAFamKDiDpA6-ZQ32aIEEq0W6QUZlzo6BXXLVgID-Oeg4uAzEjhohxqXs24I__UgWtbkszPfD1Lye70jkPWCDUeTc-UgL0NYsHfbDc9X9As2TWjKsjCY4txf2r890d2Wf3Wj/s1600/100_4932.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cute little bonus. I hope someone's Grandma was not expecting to see that on the wall. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think it would look cute in the middle of a quilt square. Do you ever use embroidery or "unusual finds" in the center of your quilt blocks?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What is your best yard sale find recently?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Back to trimming some blocks. More on that another day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last week we took a short road trip. Usually there is nothing short about our road trips. Last summer we were gone six of the nine weeks of summer. Whew! We had to go back to school to rest from all of the running!<br />
<br />
Our first trip this summer found us in Ringing Rocks Park near Pottstown, PA. What is there you ask?<br />

We went on to Valley Forge next. This is a free admission national park for all of you who might be looking for a low cost fun time. (My husband, Dan, is a social studies teacher so I learn way too much on these little outings.) Here are some highlight pictures:</div>

A reproduction of a cabin that the troops would have lived in for the winter. They started building these in the middle of December. A little late in the season, I think. They built about 2,000 of these in the area. Each housed 12 men. Cramped quarters to say the least. I guess they had plenty of time to do this. (No cable TV to distract them.)</div>

There are bronze panels on the four sides at the base with all of the infantry soldiers' names listed. Isn't this an artful photograph?<br />

This is the decoration in the stairway leading to the top of the monument. It is very quilty, don't you think? After all, this is a quilt blog!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Mgzgb5EiilZsg-JPiwLepcrdzjHOodMMswofb55aDmnqI02TT4xEBz3EF8dJNA2Lxi11HNOqH16k9A6dEmo_HW86wzhdtrW3vaL5jfLm-B3Mc1GoMrdCnAQNn9MmVLA9VUNNeiWRq4MA/s1600/100_4980.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Mgzgb5EiilZsg-JPiwLepcrdzjHOodMMswofb55aDmnqI02TT4xEBz3EF8dJNA2Lxi11HNOqH16k9A6dEmo_HW86wzhdtrW3vaL5jfLm-B3Mc1GoMrdCnAQNn9MmVLA9VUNNeiWRq4MA/s1600/100_4980.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
These plaques were all along the edge on the top balcony of the monument. They show distances to the battle sites, cities, etc. I am easily entertained and thought they were cool.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimC9ncIjCKZ5XIIQpMgs1NQm9IsQgD6hHXHZ93oownKAyyyz5iipsm2PE64XjBIHuR9gSKGBtYJwy1NZR_WypACBPval2dzRMnF6CH9hBLWa84LZCv4KzUFO4Jlp50-yCg-K1fb0-Y_TXd/s1600/100_4981.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimC9ncIjCKZ5XIIQpMgs1NQm9IsQgD6hHXHZ93oownKAyyyz5iipsm2PE64XjBIHuR9gSKGBtYJwy1NZR_WypACBPval2dzRMnF6CH9hBLWa84LZCv4KzUFO4Jlp50-yCg-K1fb0-Y_TXd/s1600/100_4981.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the view from the above plaque. That is my red car waaaaaaay down there. (If you are into Gettysburg history....that is the Big and Little Round Top in the distance. Devil's Den is in front of those, but behind the trees.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was the angel at the top of the monument. She is fantastic...beautiful and terrifying at the same time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytxtgxhQPNrcf51MWKpU3VLT66XIlVNu_MdgfqeGrCBvBjY8xXApIuZSrr3HDnDFTxWiHRs0Z25ZLbqUO6M1z4nn_kV8vMxctKOeQVi0h81yEZoJfWJwUmpgbqk8HWUqFQIyOZrmEP-7_/s1600/100_4984.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjytxtgxhQPNrcf51MWKpU3VLT66XIlVNu_MdgfqeGrCBvBjY8xXApIuZSrr3HDnDFTxWiHRs0Z25ZLbqUO6M1z4nn_kV8vMxctKOeQVi0h81yEZoJfWJwUmpgbqk8HWUqFQIyOZrmEP-7_/s1600/100_4984.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
On the way back out of the monument, I had to take at least one artful picture of the decoration on the ceiling.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBvbD24BlCYZdLNxodFFKQGgMB3Pq-VBx57z-9nU-NWpMbjbEaqUl277rQhxgcI7SwS4wSlkPKVq2vDr1272vvrMAe_ngZ-kRKEN38190ciGylYRxMBHtoPZFNs7S9MsjzryX18saXneCz/s1600/100_4985.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBvbD24BlCYZdLNxodFFKQGgMB3Pq-VBx57z-9nU-NWpMbjbEaqUl277rQhxgcI7SwS4wSlkPKVq2vDr1272vvrMAe_ngZ-kRKEN38190ciGylYRxMBHtoPZFNs7S9MsjzryX18saXneCz/s1600/100_4985.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also visited a quilt show in Lancaster in our travels. No pictures were allowed. I know that right now, based on their prices, that I am sitting on about a million dollars worth of quilt tops and fabric in my sewing room. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Have a great Father's Day! Don't forget to enjoy your family. (Yes, I meant "enjoy".)</div>

One of the quilt workshops this year was using the Studio 180 Hunter's Star ruler. I got enough blocks done for a lap size quilt this weekend. Here is my first preview:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuFV5Zjg920N_zuhleO6n9tTQnd72rLwRcyXRZlGMk4DzbQ8tHph90v8ggJFhTvcE4Pc3dN9JbuFGo80LSZTeV_JPom_ZXfGFzqWkUOVvyT6KhJzvmaB_f2VGtZ7oAsqPTiyx1r7zfdxBA/s1600/100_4720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuFV5Zjg920N_zuhleO6n9tTQnd72rLwRcyXRZlGMk4DzbQ8tHph90v8ggJFhTvcE4Pc3dN9JbuFGo80LSZTeV_JPom_ZXfGFzqWkUOVvyT6KhJzvmaB_f2VGtZ7oAsqPTiyx1r7zfdxBA/s1600/100_4720.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The first block alternates the dark and light. The stars would be purple/ teal or red/ green.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2JNxMqrQZ7ef7CwrkWC0lZVGgnfn_0RUqm9oiFnpX8yD9Mj4b-wYndK6rtihC6PgBcU31NPt0h0Dh2hIpaw2bPq7eFervFKxWFMxXjrjp4jC06LWZ0d_yvaxv4-ET2Qz3hN5HMwKiCu3H/s1600/100_4721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2JNxMqrQZ7ef7CwrkWC0lZVGgnfn_0RUqm9oiFnpX8yD9Mj4b-wYndK6rtihC6PgBcU31NPt0h0Dh2hIpaw2bPq7eFervFKxWFMxXjrjp4jC06LWZ0d_yvaxv4-ET2Qz3hN5HMwKiCu3H/s1600/100_4721.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">The second lay out has all lights together and all darks together. The stars will have all four colors.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">I like both arrangements. Hmmmm!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">This still needs some work, but I think I like it best...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5B9onlawuSyFCNiHgucFzAwkghbVzyzTQge6KFI11ltQXqnwlN89dFrsZZqF2kPAMO8p6HYTvk8LS3mEBCW6qBDQfon1vWNO7Ism66xwILvd-tP4VCo5oCilchlF1h-2e8DQL9PNwdbW9/s1600/100_4761.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5B9onlawuSyFCNiHgucFzAwkghbVzyzTQge6KFI11ltQXqnwlN89dFrsZZqF2kPAMO8p6HYTvk8LS3mEBCW6qBDQfon1vWNO7Ism66xwILvd-tP4VCo5oCilchlF1h-2e8DQL9PNwdbW9/s1600/100_4761.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am going to put the two with the different background in the middle. Next comes borders...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What do you have on your design wall today?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Later,</div>

I look forward to quilt camp for an entire year. The dates are already on the calendar for next year.<br />
<br />
Packing on Thursday night was loads of fun. I am sure that the neighbors thought I was moving out. Last year, I did not have the fabric I wanted with me. That wasn't going to happen again! HA! I also had all of the trim and buttons that I could possibly ever want!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
From the driver's seat:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi82j012kchQfe4nuSwQBdJ7nM9MYW5c2BmzfpRuGUTF0sWwuze5YrMwqi2FZSwCM0y8XKLbyPzde92KO4yR-N-W1IErOPOrbSZnM90tbndnTcVhu4He8ktv9vqlaij9AdsrLTsqnamVhK2/s1600/100_4718.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi82j012kchQfe4nuSwQBdJ7nM9MYW5c2BmzfpRuGUTF0sWwuze5YrMwqi2FZSwCM0y8XKLbyPzde92KO4yR-N-W1IErOPOrbSZnM90tbndnTcVhu4He8ktv9vqlaij9AdsrLTsqnamVhK2/s1600/100_4718.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
From the back:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjubnPJJhQdkMUxsno8lfYb1xFzuNCu_HDYnhROFPMeKFJZh-3JQyZ2CafbCvjBvhS5SMS9Xzx45EOmOUGDH5yUZxqdgz1ffIjK4ULO2sazze2e6ac9K2sR65ks-V0gmfmYdTF3Vw2URaII/s1600/100_4719.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjubnPJJhQdkMUxsno8lfYb1xFzuNCu_HDYnhROFPMeKFJZh-3JQyZ2CafbCvjBvhS5SMS9Xzx45EOmOUGDH5yUZxqdgz1ffIjK4ULO2sazze2e6ac9K2sR65ks-V0gmfmYdTF3Vw2URaII/s1600/100_4719.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a great time for inspiration, friends, and fellowship. It is nice to sit and sew next to a friendly face (or faces). It is also nice to take a break and see what everyone else is working on. <br />
<br />
Friday evening is a special time for "show and tell". My friend, Barb, took the pictures for me. Every quilt and quilter had a wonderful story. I will write individual blogs about some of them later. Some quilts aren't in this little picture show because the pictures didn't turn out. If any quilt camp attendees would like to share pictures, let me know through an e-mail. I will gladly post them here.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

First an embroidered quilt:<br />

<br />
I did not get pictures of the challenge quilts. We showed these in the morning at introduction time. We all had the same set of blocks. They all looked so different, but you will just have to take my word for that.<br />
<br />

Nah! Spring Sewing! Yeah!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I finally finished putting the top together for quilt camp. It still needs some bling added to it. I will share my story and blinged up quilt with you later. (Quilt camp is May 2nd so I need to kick it into high gear!) I did move the stars to the corners like several of you recommended. It does look much more balanced this way.<br />

This is not the best picture I have ever taken, but my "assistant" is outside playing with firewood and the riding mower. Please don't ask for me to elaborate. Any way I explain it, it sounds ridiculous.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are a few more blocks that I have been working on. These are the smaller log cabin blocks for Judy L's pattern <a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/2012/12/05/medallion-mystery/">"Back to Square One"</a>. Log cabin blocks are so easy, but yet so time consuming. I chain piece, but I have to iron them after each step. I just can't help myself. I must squish them until they are crisp, flat, and perfect. Needless to say, log cabin blocks are usually done as a beginner/ender project.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love these colors. My one co-worker did art work in these colors for a college class. Her professor told her they were "garish". When she tells the story, it is pronounce garrrrrrish.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am short a few green strips. This is the scrap basket that I am pulling from. I know I can do this if I just start cutting and stop over thinking it. As soon as I finish this blog, I am cutting, cutting, cutting! There is something very liberating in cutting fabric into small, but precise pieces with a rotary cutter.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYrul9YL5bDm0Le1OmleKQQt8th2nobdkGLOzjQpChmQzIvNlxE0wp1Dj18-s1y7O7w2nFAhx-bbDoIOHmwdSKPLeZtmiSvf7AI8xAiSCOCWeZ5x7vufjt22c37yxAA_Vo5xXrc-Oc_lpy/s1600/100_4709.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYrul9YL5bDm0Le1OmleKQQt8th2nobdkGLOzjQpChmQzIvNlxE0wp1Dj18-s1y7O7w2nFAhx-bbDoIOHmwdSKPLeZtmiSvf7AI8xAiSCOCWeZ5x7vufjt22c37yxAA_Vo5xXrc-Oc_lpy/s1600/100_4709.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also worked on some row by row blocks for a quilt posted on <a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/">Lori Holt's site</a>. She has since turned this into a cute little book. I don't know why I have waited so long to finish this quilt. After the mug row, I only have 3 more rows. They go together quickly because her directions are excellent. They use up lots of scraps (which is more fun once you let yourself really go)! You will see more of her blocks later. She has been hosting the "Great Granny Along" recently. I like to look at the pictures, but I have not been participating because I am not finished with the row by row.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Her patterns remind me of the "block magic" books. In those books, all the pieces start as squares or rectangles. Not a triangle to be found. The block patterns are also in multiple sizes. Some of the smaller blocks have really small pieces...down to 3/4 inch square! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe I will design some blocks like these and host a row by row too! Hmmmm...</div>

Sometimes inspiration comes from the oddest source. I did restrain myself from taking a picture of the ceiling in the Denny's restaurant in Breezewood, PA on Saturday. <br />
<br />
We were traveling to visit my in-laws. Friday was their 50th wedding anniversary. They thankfully did not want a big party, only to go out to a nice dinner. What a wonderful milestone! I probably should have made them a quilt. Sometimes I am not very good at planning ahead. That is another blog topic for another day.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I digress. Many things have inspired me during my travels across the 48 contiguous states. Most of those pictures were lost when my computer crashed this fall. Now I have to start taking inspiration pictures all over again. I had a file for pattern and a separate file for color combinations. <br />
<br />
My example today is a rug in a hallway at a hotel. (Panama City, Florida, I think.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAoH87B5e6F2ftkIVvFZUhQkqB-ElHu-1YI_ZoKWrQB6F2bKllZkTZ6jo6rUUfvNrUVw0nIILcdfFkwzvjOuCbVSg2kW07J751LfhLbmjojBdRHvG6U-cHWJ4vc1JvXuQzSP11dcIo9P9o/s1600/100_4361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAoH87B5e6F2ftkIVvFZUhQkqB-ElHu-1YI_ZoKWrQB6F2bKllZkTZ6jo6rUUfvNrUVw0nIILcdfFkwzvjOuCbVSg2kW07J751LfhLbmjojBdRHvG6U-cHWJ4vc1JvXuQzSP11dcIo9P9o/s1600/100_4361.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know it is silly, but I really like the center medallion of this rug. Designs that are based on six have a special appeal to me. I also developed a recent fondness for Dresden Plates.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA8ofWMOa5akeP2D9GliC4z7qtOXgWTlvA_QwRB0k_8AjPX0yKwwT2WcRc-ZQOxoa7hGaBpctx3Xp4xhxA02Jr8m0_VEkhL_s3Z-3iyRV-KlyEz-VRBe98uE5fPAo9uV_hblZyhcGGLro5/s1600/100_4362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA8ofWMOa5akeP2D9GliC4z7qtOXgWTlvA_QwRB0k_8AjPX0yKwwT2WcRc-ZQOxoa7hGaBpctx3Xp4xhxA02Jr8m0_VEkhL_s3Z-3iyRV-KlyEz-VRBe98uE5fPAo9uV_hblZyhcGGLro5/s1600/100_4362.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This would make a fantastic applique. Shell and flower motifs are complimentary designs. Wispy tendril leaves and vines make a good combination, too. I don't really like the colors shown here, but that can always be changed in fabric. Mwhahaha! I wish that I had discovered that applique is NOT scary before I started wearing bifocals. I could have set the applique world on fire back when I could see better. Humph!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4UK8n7tweh1BmViCTY90SVGUOT1EKhPeruM931zojYJlteU0bYiHPFfRlUsIFPSUcVKf6i43OfugVlgrJbSQgrLlolhoo8o29gLm98Eq5GR2Zb5y3lrYyUqFLcDCyPCh6-5WOLmMR4sfM/s1600/100_4363.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4UK8n7tweh1BmViCTY90SVGUOT1EKhPeruM931zojYJlteU0bYiHPFfRlUsIFPSUcVKf6i43OfugVlgrJbSQgrLlolhoo8o29gLm98Eq5GR2Zb5y3lrYyUqFLcDCyPCh6-5WOLmMR4sfM/s1600/100_4363.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What a great border! I love this Grecian look...There may be one of these in a border book that I already own....hmmmm.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0BY_OiD-2YOecmO24OrKozC7FTu-TafM0zk3H1I4McVMU1plBMqHUI_eQOorZhFazjwqNVxaSODhzM9B6QpiHOB1iE1SPXK5BlImsGJZnCrc-lI3Xy2vIgtuP1qxNvKxdKsCvL5U8JKtB/s1600/100_4364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0BY_OiD-2YOecmO24OrKozC7FTu-TafM0zk3H1I4McVMU1plBMqHUI_eQOorZhFazjwqNVxaSODhzM9B6QpiHOB1iE1SPXK5BlImsGJZnCrc-lI3Xy2vIgtuP1qxNvKxdKsCvL5U8JKtB/s1600/100_4364.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the entire thing. I think the parts are greater than the sum in this case.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Maybe next time I will take a picture of that ceiling! (My husband just shakes his head when I start taking "weird" pictures. He doesn't even ask anymore because he already knows the answer to his question....something to do with quilting. I made him wait in the car for a few extra minutes after we checked out of the hotel just so I could run back in to snap these pictures for future reference.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What inspires you?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Have a great week!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the bow tie quilt flimsy that is shown in the previous post. It is a nice lap size or just big enough to use in a vehicle. I am excited because the local drive-in theater opens this weekend in Stephen City, VA (just south of Winchester, VA). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bandit, our crazy little dog, just loves to go to the drive-in. They usually give him a biscuit when we pay. Going for a car ride is a happy place for him. Wouldn't life be great if little things could make us happy all the time every day?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bandit has his own cat. Fraidy Kitty is curled up with her feet on him in this picture. All the pets love the fuzzy blanket most, the quilt second.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next time, I think I will share pictures of some things that inspire me. What inspires you?</div>

I am posting pictures of the quilt that is on the quilting machine today. The design wall looks very similar to the way it looked last week. Sorry about the artistic angle of this picture.<br />
<br />
Here is the bow tie quilt that will go in my DH's new truck. He has waited 16 years to buy the truck he wanted. Every vehicle we own has to have some basic things: jumper cables, tool kit, first aid kit, and a quilt. (Who wants to be cold at the drive-in? Not me! The drive-in is much more fun with a quilt...)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh01bUTYb0P3oVwDD1FtV6Ldl8llYMymfHG6vW1ATwczaJTwQb-tvE06EJhP2LQ79BTxPDnSbH0xQzUqbylw8GVNEUvO1Dx0N0Z9Wnt9hA5hccucvFQjW2iQL51BhSJ8-Hy8R02szG9drDk/s1600/100_4593.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh01bUTYb0P3oVwDD1FtV6Ldl8llYMymfHG6vW1ATwczaJTwQb-tvE06EJhP2LQ79BTxPDnSbH0xQzUqbylw8GVNEUvO1Dx0N0Z9Wnt9hA5hccucvFQjW2iQL51BhSJ8-Hy8R02szG9drDk/s1600/100_4593.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
This quilt is made with a muslin background and mostly homespun plaid fabrics. The quilting in most of the muslin parts is what I affectionately call "swoop-dee-loop-dee".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8eplV5cGoDQpvx2Tb6Y_tGU35XKf_mzabw0koYuJDq_z0FtEOK6jBopZdTGjPEjVO0c1yT2L5NRKAc-S_Vd9uRK6X1Jzgef9mx7BTjxmqr0XN5igfSasvUrVdGkNNG2McNwihmWJQpYi7/s1600/100_4594.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8eplV5cGoDQpvx2Tb6Y_tGU35XKf_mzabw0koYuJDq_z0FtEOK6jBopZdTGjPEjVO0c1yT2L5NRKAc-S_Vd9uRK6X1Jzgef9mx7BTjxmqr0XN5igfSasvUrVdGkNNG2McNwihmWJQpYi7/s1600/100_4594.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The quilting on the bow ties is done with variegated thread. It looks like a squished flower with a spiral center. Sometimes the petals overlap, sometimes they don't. I am slightly over halfway done with the bow ties.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGTNBXhiz1w07TGyL825Fqapvk9nAKaNObykl3Idq_uSs58rhzITQhvIaKVeSAYPRf3RuQjvrjnGXresv6qGSmraE5pnqGL1hTcEe7K4Yf61nbrfZ7-ji5FrnyXVt2MiXHuoJS3Q79iq9b/s1600/100_4596.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGTNBXhiz1w07TGyL825Fqapvk9nAKaNObykl3Idq_uSs58rhzITQhvIaKVeSAYPRf3RuQjvrjnGXresv6qGSmraE5pnqGL1hTcEe7K4Yf61nbrfZ7-ji5FrnyXVt2MiXHuoJS3Q79iq9b/s1600/100_4596.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These blocks were part of an exchange that I participated in years (a decade?) ago. I found them when I was bored on a snow day. I know I was bored because I was cleaning instead of sewing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am hoping that spring actually shows up on Thursday. We had almost 6 inches of snow on the ground this morning. The roads have been plowed and the snow is melting nicely. Thank God for Southern snow storms. Here today, hopefully gone tomorrow.</div>

I always forget to post for design wall Monday...until I read the digest version on Tuesday. Here is the first four blocks of my star studded crumb block quilt. Since this is on the cork board above my cutting table, I also have baggies of fabrics fastened to it, too. This bulletin board also serves as a "door" that hides my rulers, etc. on the shelves behind it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3veBIiHDC1ipYjjbdRDsrMOrrbnlFlgX2BP7pQMzDVxJiUFN7XHNbEWYs3jW8Nv_nG0ccLsickUaZu6hMZqeRdYUXcQa8AmHp07WOuLshT6qpKyKd-yQ2v-sGok2jhmWSyknFAwvi33aR/s1600/100_4591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3veBIiHDC1ipYjjbdRDsrMOrrbnlFlgX2BP7pQMzDVxJiUFN7XHNbEWYs3jW8Nv_nG0ccLsickUaZu6hMZqeRdYUXcQa8AmHp07WOuLshT6qpKyKd-yQ2v-sGok2jhmWSyknFAwvi33aR/s1600/100_4591.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On my regular design wall, I have the blocks from a quilt camp challenge. I need to have the top finished by May 1 for this year's quilt camp. I already have an idea of how I am going to do the sashings and cornerstones. </div>

Would you move the row of Dolly Madison stars that are all currently at the bottom? I thought about moving them to the top or the corners? I need to do more rearranging and take some more pictures. Hmmmm....</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
During the summer time, I have an added routine to quilt therapy...Yard Sale-ing! On most Saturdays, my friend, Bernadine, and I force my husband to be our chauffeur. Last summer we came upon a yard sale in an out of the way wooded "development" here in West Virginia. Some ladies were helping their friend downsize so that she could move in with her daughter in her Baltimore apartment. I picked up the ties that I used in this Dresden block for FREE. Did I mention that that these 6 ties (6 ties actually makes 4 blocks, not just one) came with a very large garbage bag of friends? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2N2RQy5j-Gbx2sdNODgS0gek3p3jwzXZzD331JNHg44rC7RXpDVBbKYSUeNxEqVZ2yUKnSLHcMe5JS80yZRACu3391GZnVwN9IDA8Pq2Gw1WctMoQiFzjTOXU1TfOHHg1ucjuOA2MAiM/s1600/100_4278.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2N2RQy5j-Gbx2sdNODgS0gek3p3jwzXZzD331JNHg44rC7RXpDVBbKYSUeNxEqVZ2yUKnSLHcMe5JS80yZRACu3391GZnVwN9IDA8Pq2Gw1WctMoQiFzjTOXU1TfOHHg1ucjuOA2MAiM/s1600/100_4278.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I always wash any fabric before it ever goes into the sewing room. I worry about creatures, smells, etc. It took 2 full washer loads to take care of all of the ties.<br />
<br />
I have been slowly "gutting" my new found free ties. They are made from a wide variety of materials. Some are silk imports with brand names. Some are tacky polyester creatures. One was even homemade...very carefully stitched by loving hands . To date, I have stripped out 114 ties.<br />
<br />
I wish I had gotten the name and address of my generous benefactor. She was so glad that someone was finally going to make the tie quilt that she had been saving for her whole life. I am trying my best to turn that into reality.<br />
<br />
Enjoy your day!<br />

A picture says a thousand words, but I discovered that my camera and new computer were fr-enemies at best. My solution: a ten dollar camera card reader! No new camera necessary! HA! (In my epic battle with technology, the score is now 1-1.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCnH7q8T2lAwJqAJpiHc27h8hkFIWKmyAJF6uM9jWBIpNWecdFju2KihOWqH69LKKSq6iw7JF0eQkXZSHM76TKEa2LvlPvaeM1MbrYrKixITiQwdEWpII01eg1W4AdsUaPRxxIT46HiNY3/s1600/100_4484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCnH7q8T2lAwJqAJpiHc27h8hkFIWKmyAJF6uM9jWBIpNWecdFju2KihOWqH69LKKSq6iw7JF0eQkXZSHM76TKEa2LvlPvaeM1MbrYrKixITiQwdEWpII01eg1W4AdsUaPRxxIT46HiNY3/s1600/100_4484.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The date on this picture is not correct because the battery went dead and it reset itself to the default date. (Now the score is 1-2...technology is winning....argh!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now that you have seen beautiful....back to reality....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is part of my flower garden right outside the front door. At least the gazing ball adds some color to this picture. The snow is not melting. It is cold. Back to quilting. I think I will roam around my quilting room taking pictures so that I can start blogging more often. Enjoy your day!</div>

My husband and I gifted each other a short trip to the Florida Keys. I would love to share some pictures, but I recently discovered that my camera no longer will sync up with the computer. I need to get myself a card reader. C'est la vie! I am still in a mellow mood from 3 days in the glorious sunshine and warmth. It will take at least 2 weeks for my tan and/or freckles to fade!<br />
<br />
I think I am going to link my <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WeRQuilters/conversations/messages">Yahoo WeRQuilters group</a> to this blog...at least that way someone will read all of my BS.<br />
<br />
I hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas. We actually spent Christmas day driving towards home. We stayed the night in a clean, quiet Comfort Inn & Suites in Waycross, GA. I was never so glad that the hotel restaurant was open. I ate collard greens for the first time in my life. They taste a lot like chopped up brussel sprouts with some kind of vinegar added in the mix. Not bad. I could eat those again. I slept for 11 hours! I was exhausted. <br />
<br />
We stopped for 2 more days in Williamsburg, VA. One of our favorite places to go. I got to stop at Hancock fabric. Yeah! The stash just got bigger. I will be washing and ironing for quite a while.<br />
<br />
Enough for now! I will add more later when I can add photos...<br />
<br />
Have a safe and Happy New Year's celebration!<br />
Later,<br />

I love Judy LaQuidara's format of <a href="http://www.patchworktimes.com/">http://www.patchworktimes.com/</a>. She always has a picture, even if it is of something simple. I recently had a crash with my computer. I have been saving lots of things that were "cool" and "neat" from all over the web. It is like having part of my brain removed! I am slowly recovering passwords and favorites. I did not realize how much time and energy I had saved into that old laptop! My son had been nagging at me to upgrade for the past year...or two. I have a philosophy that if it is not broken, why fix it? Well, now it is broken. I have a new plan...external hard drive as back up.<br />
<br />
I now have some projects that can be done on cold, snowy days.<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>I can recreate the database of all the quilting books that I own. </li>
<li>I will need to redo my Christmas card and gift database. I am glad that I keep a paper copy of the card list in my travel papers for driving in the car. I hope I didn't make any recent changes that aren't on that printed copy.</li>
<li>All my EQ quilts are gone. I will have to become reinspired.</li>
<li>Most of my photos...kaput...Time to take MORE pictures. I am so glad that I posted some here on the blog and some at my yahoo group. <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WeRQuilters/conversations/topics">http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WeRQuilters/conversations/topics</a></li>
</ol>
<div>
I read an e-mail that was sent by a good friend. The topic was positive attitudes and choosing to have one or not. I am choosing the positive route. Another friend's husband is in the hospital. He was in a coma for two days. Doctor's did not think he would make it. How could I be upset about a computer crash when there are many worse and more tragic things going on around me?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Have a wonderful day. Remember to tell those you love... that you do.</div>
<div>
Later,</div>

The weather was beautiful! I hope you are enjoying your summer, too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am learning that it is incredibly challenging to post to a blog from a tablet. Whew! This almost seems like work!</div>
