New family member

I would like to introduce you to Bonnie.  (Since she is from England, well, actually, Scotland, her name is Bonnie.)  Based on her serial number, I think she was manufactured in 1969-1970.  I had trouble finding her birth date on the singer site.  I found it on a chart on another site.

I have several sewing machines. (I collect them mostly by accident.)  My Dad loves to look for things at flea markets, yard sales, etc.  He is the best finder of "stuff" that I have ever met!  He found me the full size "portable" singer machine and the mid-size one, too.  Yesterday, he found me a white featherweight!  I told him to keep an eye out for one because they are rare.  It was even in the original case.  It cost me (or hubby, if that is how you want to look at it)...$30!  It runs like a dream.  I have been playing with it all day long.

The inside of the case has a little bit of a musty smell.  I scrubbed it out with oxyclean, etc.  The smell is improving.  The machine itself was a little dusty, but fairly clean.  It has a small crack on the motor mounting bracket, but that doesn't seem to effect her performance any.  There are a few tiny chips in the paint.

There was no book with the machine.  I had a very difficult time getting it to sew with out the bobbin thread jamming.  I found a copy of the manual at http://www.singer-featherweight.com/222manual-pages/222manual-1.html. There was lots of helpful information there, like put bobbin case tab A1 in slot B2 of the throat plate to correctly operate the machine.  Hmmmm!

What is that pink and orange stripe stuff on there?  It is the removable tape that you use on rulers.  I like to extend the lines out from the throat plate so that I don't always need to draw lines to sew corner to corner on small squares.  I am a great fan of that technique.  These extended lines will work on anything less than 3".

I am so excited!  Time to go sew some more!
